Travel Insurance Credit

We recognise that the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is an extraordinary circumstance that has affected many travellers around the world.

Eligible customers who have been affected by coronavirus (COVID-19) travel restrictions have been offered a travel insurance credit.

In addition, we are offering eligible customers the option to cancel their policy outside the cooling-off period and obtain a refund. You can request a refund here.

How to use the credit

Customers who have received written confirmation of their offer of credit, can redeem this credit by purchasing a new policy and contacting us before 31 March 2023 to receive a refund on the original unused policy.

Terms of Credit Offer

Am I eligible for a credit?
  • You are eligible to receive and redeem a travel insurance credit if you:
    - are an Australian or New Zealand resident;
    - have an unused Qantas Travel Insurance policy with a travel start date on or before 31 March 2021, which has not been cancelled;
    - can no longer travel due to COVID-19 and related government travel restrictions; and
    - request a credit by 31 March 2021 using our online request form.
  • Your policy is ‘unused’ so long as you haven’t used, and won’t use, your policy in any way, such as by travelling on the policy, or submitting a claim or exercising any other right under the policy.
How can I redeem my credit?
  • If we have issued you a credit, you can redeem it by taking the following steps by 31 March 2023:
    - purchase a new Qantas Travel Insurance policy (subject to the conditions below) using one of our standard payment methods; and
    - contact us to let us know your new policy number and to request a refund for your original unused policy.

    Once you have taken these steps, we will then refund you the value of your original policy. 
  • At least one insured traveller from the original unused policy needs to be listed on the new policy.
  • The new policy cannot be a Cancellation and Baggage policy unless the original policy was also a Cancellation and Baggage policy.
  • Your credit must be redeemed by 31 March 2023. Travel does not have to commence by this date.

  • This offer of credit is not transferrable.
  • Qantas Travel Insurance is managed by nib Travel Services (Australia) Pty Limited on behalf of the underwriter.
  • All Qantas Travel Insurance is subject to eligibility rules and policy terms and conditions made available at the time of booking. Rates and plans may change without notice.
  • We reserve the right to cancel your credit and any associated purchase without compensation if you do not comply with these terms and conditions.
